Main Concert Hall
Teatro del Bicentenario has the highest quality acoustics. The main hall is horseshoe-shaped, just like the Colon Theater of Buenos Aires. Throughout the construction of Teatro del Bicentenario the best quality material was used to comply with the most severe standards of acoustics.
During the first rehearsals carried out while it was under construction, several acoustic tests were taken in different areas of the main hall and the results were remarkably satisfactory.
On August 29th (2018) the first test was carried out with a local musician who played the violin and his performance undergone acoustic measurements based on quality standards.
Gustavo Basso and Rafael Sanchez Quintana, two world known engineers who worked at the Colon Theater, Teatro Argentino de La Plata, “Ballena Azul” of the Centro Cultural Kirchner, Usina del Arte, among others, were in charge of performing the first thorough acoustic tests with very positive results.
Later, on October 12th (2018) the first rehearsal of Carmina Burana was performed on the main stage of the Theater with the Symphonic Orchestra of the UNSJ (National University of San Juan) together with Arturo Beruti and Villicum Choirs and the choirs of the Catholic University of Cuyo and the National University of San Juan. These outstanding performances confirmed that the acoustics of the Theater are unique.
Seats
The traditionally bordeaux opera seats, especially designed to avoid interference with the acoustics of the Theater, are found in the main hall. The seats were provided by Figueras, a well-known Spanish company famous for the installation of seats in several theatres and public spaces around the world. The installation implied a very detailed and delicate job coordinated by a company expert sent from Spain.
First, the seats were placed in their corresponding spot. The right position of the seats was redefined several times in order to achieve the best layout originally designed by the architects and the acoustic experts. The seats are covered with a special flame retardant fabric, “Trevira” and the wooden backrest has the modern “soft” system which automatically folds the seat on the backrest silently to avoid interruptions.
